Orc Stone Golem (Rogue Idol Alternative) #MonsterMarch7

My final entry for Swordmaster's Monster March painting challenge is the Orc Stone Golem, sculpted by Ismael Prieto. The model can be seen as an alternative to the ForgeWorld Rogue Idol of Gork (or Mork).

I had a lot of fun painting this miniature, it felt more like a piece of scenery than a character and I could do most of the work just by drybrushing and washing. It was also a great opportunity to try out the much hyped Dirty Down effect paints for moss and rust.

I also used a bit of the lichen effect paint by Vallejo and really like how the paint matches the yellow of the real lichen on the sticks from my garden. Since the base is quite large it was also a great opportunity to place a few Laser Plants by GamersGrass on it.

  1. We were blown away: how wonderful! You managed to give a personal touch to an already cool monster, but with an almost entirely rocky surface; you did it by transforming it into a diorama with very realistic rocks, with mosses, lichens, rusty metal pieces, and placing it perfectly on a ground base from which it seems to have just emerged! Thank you for the indication of the brands of the products you used: we will have to do some shopping soon...

I'm really happy with the result, wouldn't have guessed that painting rocks could be so much fun!

  2. Awesome piece Snapfit, the effect on the stone and metal looks very natural, and the added details on the base really tie it all together.

    1. Thanks a lot, Dave! The rust effect did most of the work for the metal, I'm amazed at how easily one can get realistic rust with it.
