Da Green Horde

For Keith's Monster May(hem) painting challenge I decided to paint two River Trolls (known as Fellwater Troggoths in AoS). One of them is a classic GW miniature, the other one a converted Reaper Bones Marsh Troll. I didn't really like the original (very small) head of the Reaper troll, so I replaced it with one from the GW Fellwater Troggoth kit. The head fits the model perfectly and I really like the crocodile-like features it has. The classic GW River Troll was sculpted by Michael Perry and is a favourite of mine. The pose is fantastic, reminds me of a frog that's ready to jump at its prey. These troggoths are the newest members of my ever-growing swamp goblin tribe Da Boghoppaz .

 My first entry for Swordmaster's #MonsterMarch6 painting challenge is a warbeast for my boglars (swamp goblins). The model was originally a toy tortoise that I converted by sculpting a bigger jaw out of greenstuff and buidling a howdah using chopsticks. I actually built it around Christmas 2019 if I remember correctly, but didn't finish painting it. As the theme of the challenge is based around monstrous models, I decided now's the perfect time to complete the project. The project was heavily influenced by Thantsants' War Tortoise , who also used a turtle as a mount for his swamp goblins. I tried to paint the model similar to the World of Warcraft Steeljaw Snapper , which was the pet of my orc hunter ages ago. Lorewise, I see it as some kind of tortoise-squig, which was tamed by the Boglars and named Dursquiggo . I tried to give the base a swampy look by adding some swamp tufts by Army Painter, lichen from my garden and Agrax Earthshade Gloss.  The bits on the howdah ...

Ever since I've read about swamp goblins living in the Marshes of Madness in the 6th edition WHFB Orcs & Goblins army book, I've wanted to build a force of boglars. Boglars are amphibious greenskins that dwell in swamps and marshes, thus sharing their habitat with River Trolls, Fimir and the like. A few years ago I stumbled upon the fantastic goblin range of 4A Miniatures and decided they would make for perfect boglars. As always, it took way too long to get one of the miniatures painted, but now I'm proud to present the leader of the Mudskipper (aka Boghoppaz) tribe on his elegant steed: The boglar's mount is a Warborn Toad from Shieldwolf Miniatures which I got from their Forest Goblins Kickstarter. I really like the sculpt, it looks like a cross between a toad and a squig - a perfect mount for a swamp goblin.
