Da Green Horde

To bolster the ranks of my Ogor Mawtribes army, I recently painted two ogors/ogres on Mournfangs. I'm using them in AoS Spearhead, but they could also be used in TOW for the Ogre Kingdoms. As a side note, with the recent announcement of the new ogor models , the Mournfangs have now gone out-of-print, being replaced by Maulbeast Cavalry. For the fur of the Mournfangs, I followed the painting tutorial for Fenrisian Wolves by Matt's Hobby Hour. I highly recommend his channel if you're interested in Contrast-style paints, he shows a lot of interesting techniques. In this case for example, the fur was painted by layering Contrast paints on top of each other and no dark brown paint was used - that's grey on top of lighter brown tones. As always with ogors, I had to take advantage of the exchangeability of their kits, so I used a head from the Gluttons for the champion. Recently I painted one of my favourite models of all time and maybe the most iconic squig ever made - the original Gobbla by Kev Adams from 1993. I originally got it from Mail Order ~20 years ago and a few years ago I started to paint it, but never got beyond the basecoats. Now I found the motivation to finish it, and I must say it was a joy to paint! I went with the classic red colour scheme and painted the tongue in bright green to give it some contrast. I experimented with thinned down Blood Angels Red Contrast paint as a glaze, to bring together the basecoat (Mephiston Red) and highlight (Wild Rider Red) and I'm quite happy with the result. I painted a few more minis in the last few months, but didn't get around to posting them - they'll show up on this blog in the coming weeks. Next up will be some creatures that are at least as hungry as old Gobbla is..
