Orc Warboss on Wyvern
Happy New Year everyone! I didn't have a lot of hobby time in the last few months, but now during the holidays I managed to get some painting done. Fellow blogger Keith announced the Year of the Dragon challenge, which was a great opportunity to paint a model which I've owned for probably nearly 20 years - the Orc Warboss on Wyvern.
The model has since been re-released in resin, but this is the original metal version, which means it weighs a lot and required some pinning and gap-filling during assembly. I didn't glue the Orc on top of the wyvern and used magnets instead. This makes it possible to use the wyvern without a rider and I may even create an alternate rider at some point (maybe a shaman?).
Despite it being a large model, painting the wyvern didn't take a lot of time since I was smart enough to use a green spray primer (Vallejo Goblin Green). On top of the green basecoat I just put a few different washes and diluted Contrast paints.
As this model was painted in the last few days, it may also qualify for Dave's current Paint What You Got challenge, which runs until the end of February.
In other news: As you can see, I have a new orcy backdrop (taken from the Orctober White Dwarf) and built a board that matches my bases. Also, a friend of mine bought a domain for my birthday, so this blog can now also be reached via da.greenhor.de.
Fantastic Wyvern snapfit, and of course it counts for the challenge, and a double entry is always a bonus ! LOL Like the new backdrop and base, and will check out your new domain.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Dave! I thought about using a different backdrop for a while, but wasn't sure what to use. So I was very happy when I saw the one in the White Dwarf.
DeleteOo, lovely painting. That green is so vibrant.
ReplyDeletePerhaps 2025 is the year I'll finally paint my orc wyvern.
Thanks! I'm quite happy with the green myself, using coloured spray paints is a game-changer for me.
DeleteLooking forward to seeing it painted! Maybe I'll also paint another wyvern this year, still got two in my collection (modern Azhag and the old shaman on wyvern).
I've got the original Azhag.
DeleteThanks for mentioning the Paint What You Got challenge, I'm signed up for it now.
Ah yes, I remember that you plan to use it for Orc's Drift. If you need another reason to paint it, we could do a small challenge - each of us paints their Azhag sometime in 2025.
DeleteNo problem at all, nice to hear that you're joining!
I do indeed, especially as I just missed out on the official King F'yar on evilbay.
DeleteI've always been intimidated by larger models, so this might be the impetus I need.
I'll get the Paint What You Got challenge out of the way first 😸
Perfect! 😁
