Gnoblar Scraplauncher Kitbash

Normally I don't post unpainted miniatures, since I prefer to showcase finished projects. Today however is an exception, since I'm taking part in a challenge which has the simple goal of assembling miniatures. The challenge is hosted by Anne of Anne's Immaterium, check out the details here.

When building the Ironblaster a few months ago, I noticed that there were quite a few bits left on the sprue, as the kit can also be used to build a Gnoblar Scraplauncher. The only parts missing for a complete Scraplauncher were a chassis and a Rhinox to pull it. Luckily, I own an old metal Rhinox that I ordered from mail order ages ago. You could also easily convert a Mournfang to a Rhinox using the left over Rhinox head if you want.

To build the chassis, I searched my bitz box for useful components. The base of the chassis is a Small Stone Entrance by Spellcrow, which was included as a freebie in one of my orders. The wheels are from Mini Monsters, I deliberately used two different types of wheels to give it more of a ramshackle look. You may recognize one of the wheels from the Leadbelcher conversion I did a while ago.

I always liked that the Ogors incorporate the tusks of fallen Thundertusks in their Ironblasters/Scraplaunchers, so I decided to mimic the original design and use the tusks from the Thundertusk/Stonehorn kit, since I'm planning to build a Stonehorn anyway. I drilled holes through the tusks to attach the catapult and used some jute string to mount the chassis on the Rhinox, similar to what I did for the Mega-Rhinox. The rest of the chassis was made from wooden sticks and coffee stirrers. Once this was done, I glued on some looted orc, goblin and Stormcast shields for added details. For the knobs on the pole holding the catapult, I again used seals from toothpaste tubes. I haven't glued on the gnoblar crew yet and the Scraplauncher can be detached from the Rhinox to make painting easier. Below are some WIP pictures.

All in all I'm quite happy with the kitbash, it's recognizable but still different enough from regular Scraplaunchers to make it interesting. I can only recommend building one yourself if you already built an Ironblaster,  it's a valid alternative to buying the same kit twice.
