Mortal Citizens Feb 2022 - Wazza, messenger squig

Image
February's theme of the #mortalcitizens challenge was Messenger/Diplomat/Court Advisor , in my opinion a bit of a difficult theme for the savage forces of Destruction. I wasn't sure in which direction to go before finding a great piece of background in the current Codex: Orks mentioning squigs being used to deliver messages containing hastily written glyphs. Wazza is a cave squig used by Megaboss Gorgrim Bloodjaw to deliver messages to other warlords. He was trained by the squig herder Drizgit who tried to teach him not to eat the scrolls he is given. Surprisingly most deliveries are successful. The model used is Bonekrakka from the Zarbag's Gitz Warhammer Underworlds warband. I converted it a bit by replacing the bone in its mouth with a scroll made from greenstuff.

Mortal Citizens Jan 2022 - Unkismak, orruk bouncer

Image
Inspired by Warboss Kurgan's orruk sky-pirates , I decided to take part in the #mortalcitizens challenge as well. This is is my entry for January and also my entry for Dave Stone's "Paint What You Got" challenge . The theme for this month was Constable/Judiciary/Investigator and as greenskins don't have any law enforcers to my knowledge (they don't even have any laws), I decided to paint up an orruk whose job it is to beat up other orruks. Unkismak, orruk bouncer at Da Hungry Grunta brewhouse together with his snotling companion Snotsmak. Unkismak was hired by the local brewgit after coming out on top in an infamous bar brawl involving two dozen orruks.   For anyone interested, the miniature is the Games Day 2007 exclusive Orc Boss.

No voice in our ears but the Maw

Inspired by the amazing Ogre Kingdoms announcement trailer for Total War: Warhammer 3, I found the motivation to finish some Ogres that have been sitting on my shelf half-painted for the last few months. The Ogres left and right have been converted - something that's actually really easy to do and actively supported by Games Workshop (see the conversion examples in the Ogor Mawtribes Battletome). One of my favorite things about this range is that the bits of nearly all Ogre sets are interchangeable. For example, heads, weapons and gutplates have the same connection points for Bulls/Gluttons, Ironguts, Leadbelchers, the different Beastriders and even Blood Bowl Ogres. The Ogre with the massive flail wears a gutplate from Blood Bowl and his weapon is actually a wrecking ball from an old Ork Trukk that I got from the Mail Order 15+ years ago. I'm really proud of this conversion, it seems like a fitting weapon for an Irongut. The spiked mace of the Ogre on the right was taken from ...

Ironskull's Boyz

Image
Just in time for Orctober (and the one year anniversary of this blog) I finally managed to complete Ironskull's Boyz. Gurzag Ironskull, Hakka, Basha, Bonekutta While half of the warband (Gurzag & Basha) were already painted a few years ago, Hakka and Bonekutta were completed this month. Their colour scheme (red details plus black & white checkers) was inspired by 2nd edition Goffs and will be the basis for my Ironjawz warclan "Da Bloodjawz". I'm really happy with how these paint jobs turned out, especially since I see some progression from the earlier to the more recently painted models.

Digganobz in the Mortal Realms

Image
My love for greenskins stems from the 90's tabletop game Gorkamorka (not to be confused with the god of Destruction in the Age of Sigmar). It took place on a desert planet in the 40k universe and featured Orks fighting versus other Orks, Grot Rebels, mutants and humans who wanted to be like Orks - Digganobz. I've always liked the concept of orcy humans and thought the Diggaz would also work great in a fantasy setting like WHFB or Age of Sigmar. That's why I decided to build a small force of barbarians with green warpaint and add them to my Waaagh. These miniatures were converted from Khorne Bloodbound Bloodreavers and a Slaughterpriest, an idea I stole from Les Couzes amazing Ladz de Gurkrab (which were featured in White Dwarf June 2019) and Morghot's Digganobz . The conversions were quite straightforward. I removed all marks of Chaos, gave them some Orc weapons and added orcy bits like jaws from the Citadel Skulls kit.   I came up with the following lore regarding m...

Boglars!

Image
Ever since I've read about swamp goblins living in the Marshes of Madness in the 6th edition WHFB Orcs & Goblins army book, I've wanted to build a force of boglars. Boglars are amphibious greenskins that dwell in swamps and marshes, thus sharing their habitat with River Trolls, Fimir and the like. A few years ago I stumbled upon the fantastic goblin range of 4A Miniatures and decided they would make for perfect boglars. As always, it took way too long to get one of the miniatures painted, but now I'm proud to present the leader of the Mudskipper (aka Boghoppaz) tribe on his elegant steed: The boglar's mount is a Warborn Toad from Shieldwolf Miniatures which I got from their Forest Goblins Kickstarter. I really like the sculpt, it looks like a cross between a toad and a squig - a perfect mount for a swamp goblin. In a future post I will present a few River Trolls (or should I say Fellwater Troggoths) that will join the ranks of Da Boghoppaz, as well as a large monste...
